Ted Talks
"Ideas Worth Spreading" a slogan for the organization based on Technology Entertainment Design, or also known as TED talks. To take part in any TED talks you can attend conferences or simply watching them online. A TED talk I recently watched was called " A funny look at the unintended consequences of technology" by Chuck Nice. Long time comedian and radio personality, Chuck Nice brought his own humor and style during his show. While not doing stand up comedy, Chuck Nice is known for his often appearances on the radio/podcast show "Star Talk" with Neil deGrasse Tyson and VH1's show "Best Week Ever".
In this TED talk, Chuck Nice focused on how social media has effected society socially and mentally. With his comedic background he is able to give listeners a visual on a screen of something funny while also maybe relatable to some but with truth as the message. For example when he touches base on a more sensitive subject, cyber bullying, he tells a story of explaining this to his elderly mother, who grew up in a time were cyber bullying didn't exist. He explains how she could not understand the affects cyber bullying could mentally have and claims that his generation where "wussies" and the answer to it would be "why not just turn the internet off?".
While the crowd laughed as to realize their parents who grew up in a similar time might feel the same way, but he also made a great point that some may not have even realized could be a start to ending cyber bullying. With every point he comes across whether on cyber bullying, dating apps, self driven cars he explains how social media has been a big dependent on our decision making and social engagement. With these points I too believe social media has taken a strong hold on us.
